This depends on the brand and model but generally heat pumps make a humming noise similar to an air conditioner. Because of this it is best not to install your heat pump too close to bedrooms or neighbouring houses.
Generally, modern outdoor heat pumps have a sound rating of 60 decibels while some ultra-quiet models can be as low as 18-30 decibels.

Heat pumps need to be installed by an accredited and licensed professional. Unless you have those accreditations, it’s best to leave it to the professionals.

There are multiple types, ranging from single outdoor units to split systems (both indoor and outdoor) while others can be retrofitted to your existing hot water tank.

Heat pumps cost less compared to hot water tanks over the long run because they are more energy efficient. Heat pumps pump heat using a compressor and circulating gas refrigerant, which use up to 75% less electrical energy compared to a conventional hot water system.
Heat pumps also have a long lifespan because of their design, which is uncomplicated and does not require too many components. The fewer components involved, the less chance of something going wrong and needing to be replaced.

Heat pumps usually last between 15 to 20+ years, depending on the brand and maintenance.

Heat pump technology is efficient and draws on outdoor heat. Heat is extracted from the surrounding air through a refrigerant, then compressed to further increase its temperature. The heat is now transferred from the refrigerant to heat water from the mains. Hot water is stored in storage tanks to be used as and when needed, all year round.

Heat pumps do not use direct electric elements to heat water, unlike electric hot water systems. This is why heat pumps use up to 75% less electricity than electric hot water systems, saving on household bills and greenhouse gas emissions.
